La sociedad civil palestina pide que se intensifiquen el boicot y las sanciones mientras Israel masacra a trabajadores de ayuda humanitaria y a activistas de la solidaridad internacional Comité Nacional Palestino para el BDS

Palestina ocupada, 1 de junio de 2010 – El  Comité Nacional Palestino para el Boicot, Desinversión y Sanciones (BNC) condena enérgicamente el fatal ataque de la noche pasada por parte de la armada israelí contra la Flotilla de la Libertad de Gaza que transportaba ayuda humanitaria para la ocupada y asediada franja de Gaza. El BNC expresa las condolencias de la sociedad civil palestina a las familias y amigos de las personas asesinadas por el ataque israelí y saluda calurosamente la solidaridad basada en principios y el compromiso moral de aquellas personas implicadas en la Flotilla de la Libertad de Gaza.

El respuesta, el BNC apela a la sociedad civil internacional a:

• Movilizarse para un Día de Acción Global de BDS de emergencia el 5 de junio de 2010, día del 43 aniversario de la ocupación israelí de Gaza y Cisjordania, incluyendo Jerusalén Oriental,
• Presionar a los gobiernos para que empiecen a implementar sanciones comerciales y embargos de armas.

Apelamos específicamente a transportistas y trabajadores portuarios, y a los sindicatos de todo el mundo a:

• Negarse a cargar/descargar barcos y aviones israelíes siguiendo el histórico ejemplo dado por el Sindicato de Trabajadores del Transporte y Afines de Sudáfrica (SATAWU) en Durban en febrero de 2009 y secundado por el Sindicato Marítimo de Australia (Australia Occidental).

La Flotilla, que fue atacada en aguas internacionales en violación del derecho internacional, transportaba suministros de ayuda que Israel ha estado impidiendo sistemáticamente entrar en Gaza, incluyendo suministros médicos, cemento y alimentos. Se considera que el asedio de Israel es una forma de castigo colectivo, un crimen de guerra según el Artículo 33 de la Convención de Ginebra. Todos los trabajadores y activistas de ayuda a bordo de los barcos de la Flotilla a Gaza estaban desarmados. En términos legales, el ataque militar de Israel contra la Flotilla es un acto de agresión contra los países cuyas banderas ondeaban en estos barcos; políticamente, es un ataque contra la decencia humana y contra todas las personas de conciencia de todo el mundo que apoyan la libertad y la justicia.

La impunidad de Israel es el resultado directo del fracaso de la comunidad internacional en hacer responsable a Israel por sus continuos ocupación, colonización y apartheid del pueblo palestino. Ni los más recientes crímenes de guerra cometidos por Israel en Gaza y documentados en el Informe Goldstone ni los crímenes cometidos en 2006 contra el pueblo libanés no desencadenaron sanción oficial alguna ni de las Naciones Unidas, lo que afianzó el sentimiento por parte de Israel de estar por encima de la ley. De hecho, recientemente se premió la grave violación del derecho internacional por parte de Israel cuando la OCDE votó unánimemente aceptar a Israel como miembro. El BNC urge a la sociedad civil internacional a acabar con esta profunda y fatal complicidad.

El BNC también saluda y ratifica el llamamiento del experto de las Naciones Unidas en derechos Humanos, profesor Richard Falk, el cual afirmó:  “Es el momento de insistir en el fin del bloqueo a Gaza. La campaña mundial de boicot, desinversión y sanciones a Israel es ahora un imperativo moral y político, y hay que apoyarlo y fortalecerlo en todas partes” [1].

Como era de esperar, el Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU no ha hecho a Israel responsable de su ataque contra la Flotilla de la Libertad de Gaza [2]. El BNC apela a la Asamblea General de la ONU, a la Unión Europa, a la Liga Árabe y a sus miembros a que emprendan medidas prácticas que acaben con la impunidad de Israel por su generalizada u sistemática violación del derecho internacional, incluyendo:

• Poner fin inmediatamente a toda colusión con el bloqueo ilegal por parte de Israel a la franja de Gaza y presionar a Israel para que garantice un acceso humanitario sin restricciones y la libertad de movimientos de personas y de productos hacia y desde la franja de Gaza;
• Llevar ante la justicia a todos los oficiales israelíes y a todo el personal militar que tomó la decisión y/o implementó tanto esta última masacre como los anteriores crímenes de guerra;
• Presionar a sus gobiernos para que suspendan inmediatamente el comercio de armas con Israel, y para que implementen sanciones comerciales y embargos de armas contra Israel.
• En particular, apelamos a la Unión Europa a suspender el Acuerdo de Asociación EU-Israel, a  Mercosur a suspender el Tratado de Libre Comercio, a India a revocar la decisión de celebrar negociaciones en torno a un Tratado de Libre Comercio India-Israel y a que ponga fin al comercio de armas con Israel, y a Turquía a imponer un embargo de armas a Israel.

El BNC apela también a las personas de conciencia y a los ciudadanos de todo el mundo a intensificar las campañas de BDS contra Israel como la manera más eficaz de hacerle responsable ante el derecho internacional y de acabar con su fatal impunidad.

Call for Action by the Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC)

Palestinian civil society calls for intensifying boycott and sanctions as Israel massacres humanitarian relief workers and international solidarity activists

Occupied Palestine, 1 June 2010 – The Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions National Committee (BNC) strongly condemns last night’s fatal attack by the Israeli navy on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla carrying humanitarian aid to the occupied and besieged Gaza Strip. The BNC conveys Palestinian civil society’s condolences to the families and friends of those killed by the Israeli assault and warmly salutes the principled solidarity and moral commitment of all those involved in the Gaza Freedom Flotilla.

In response, the BNC calls on international civil society to:

· Mobilize for an emergency Global BDS Day of Action on Saturday 5 June 2010 — the 43rd anniversary of the Israeli occupation of Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem

· Pressure governments to start implementing trade sanctions and arms embargos

We call specifically on transport and dock workers and unions around the globe to:

· Refuse to load/offload Israeli ships and airplanes, following the historic example set by the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) in Durban in February 2009 and endorsed by the Maritime Union of Australia (Western Australia).

The Flotilla, which was attacked in international waters in violation of international law, was carrying relief supplies that Israel has persistently prevented from entering Gaza, including medical supplies, cement and food. Israel’s siege is considered a form of collective punishment, a war crime under Article 33 of the Geneva Convention. All of the relief workers and activists on board the Gaza Flotilla ships were unarmed. In legal terms, Israel’s military assault against the Flotilla is an act of aggression against the countries whose flags the ships were carrying; politically, it is an assault against human decency and all people of conscience around the world who support freedom and justice.

Israel’s impunity is the direct result of the international community’s failure to hold it accountable for its ongoing occupation, colonization and apartheid against the Palestinian people. Israel’s most recent war crimes committed in Gaza and documented in the Goldstone report as well as crimes committed in 2006 against the Lebanese people did not trigger any UN or official sanctions, entrenching Israel’s feeling of being above the law. In fact, Israel’s grave violation of international law was recently rewarded when the OECD voted unanimously to accept its membership. The BNC urges international civil society to end this deep and fatal complicity.

The BNC also welcomes and affirms the call of the UN expert on human rights Prof. Richard Falk who stated, “It is time to insist on the end of the blockade of Gaza. The worldwide campaign of boycott, divestment, and sanctions against Israel is now a moral and political imperative, and needs to be supported and strengthened everywhere.”[1]

The UN Security Council has, unsurprisingly, failed to hold Israel accountable for its aggression against the Gaza Freedom Flotilla.[2] The BNC calls upon the UN General Assembly, the European Union, the Arab League and their member states to undertake practical measures which will end Israel’s impunity for its massive and systematic violation of international law, including by:

· Immediately ending all collusion with Israel’s unlawful blockade of the Gaza Strip and pressuring Israel’s to guarantee unrestricted humanitarian access and freedom of movement of people and products into and out of the Gaza Strip;

· Bringing to justice all Israeli officials and military personnel who took the decision and/or implemented this latest massacre as well as earlier war crimes;

· Pressuring your government to immediately suspend arms trade with Israel, and to implement trade sanctions and arms embargos against Israel.

· In particular, we call on the EU to suspend the EU-Israel Association Agreement, the Mercosur to suspend the FTA, India to reverse decision to hold negotiations around an India-Israel FTA and to stop arms deals with Israel, and Turkey to impose an arms embargo on Israel.

The BNC also calls on people of conscience and citizen groups all over the world to intensify BDS campaigns against Israel as the most effective means of holding it accountable to international law and ending its fatal impunity.

This call is for activists, individuals, groups, communities and all others who are shocked and outraged at the Israeli breach of not only international law and UN conventions but also the values and principles of humanity.

The idea is simple. We need to focus the message that Freedom Flotilla is conveying of breaking the Israeli siege in Gaza and also challenge Israel’s blatant barbarism towards humanity. Global ‘Break the Siege’ day is about connecting efforts happening all over the world in response to Israel’s impunity on one day dedicated to speaking out on breaking the Israeli siege for Gaza.

In this action, we are collectively calling for:

- an end to the siege in Gaza

- complete isolation of Israel in line with the global movement of boycott, divestment and sanctions.

- sanctions to be place on Israel until they abide by international law, UN conventions and basic human rights principles.

so, on June 5th, 2010:

- organize pickets, rallies, demonstrations marches in front of Israeli consulates in your countries

- if you don’t have an Israeli consulate in your country then organize around any complicit allies of Israel that you find strategic such as, major israeli companies or institutions, non-Israeli companies and institutions that support Israel.

- if there is already a rally organized then endorse the call to encourage other countries to get involved, send it to your contacts in other countries to start organizing their own protests and add a creative action at the protest or rally.

- forward this call to all organizers and activists to start protests or any kind of action

- if saturday does not work, then organize around that day such as friday, sunday or monday

- send us pictures and other documentation from your action
